License to Drive

With my California car registration soon to be expiring I knew that my California drivers license and plate days were numbered. This week I finally had some time after school (who knew the start of a new quarter could be so refreshing!) so I headed over to get my car inspected, registered, and apply for my Texas drivers license. And since the Texas DMV website reads a little like Spanglish, I’m not quite sure how I managed to walk through all of the steps (less than 10 but more than 5!) in only a week’s time.

With 2 patriotic (dare I say cheesy) plates in hand and a temporary paper license to boot, today I officially became a Texan! sniff sniff. Here are a few pictures of Jake changing my Cali plates over…

….don’t worry friends and fam our hearts will always belong back home with you!

A Night on the Town and Only One Photo to Show for it.

White faced and having a good time

A childhood friend of mine, Daniel, drive though town on Friday night on his way across country. Of course we had to show him some awesome Tex-Mex, dirty 6th, and the fact that Austin is nothing close to a tumbleweed and fried everything. We can safely say that this boy quickly fell in love with all things Austin. Can’t wait to have him back again really soon.

How the heck can I stay mad at this little man?

I love my son. Don’t get me wrong, but tonight, oh boy! Ya’ll know (uh huh get over it) of his issues with new people and dogs (and bikes and buses for that matter). We’ve already posted on this in the past, but for some reason tonight really got to me. Is it too much to ask for a bog who is chill, likes visitors, and makes a evening walk a joy?

Guess I will have to keep “chanting my mantra” as a move forward. Ok, thanks for letting me rant. Tomorrow is a post about a bittersweet event with an ugly license plate.

Grown Up Version of Tag

One of my fav friends and fellow blogger, Amy, tagged me her blog to answer some questions. Although I would normally pass this thing along if it was an e-mail or Facebook post, I heart this girl and would do anything for her. I’ve also been pretty MIA in the blog world lately and owe our fam and friends some goodies just in time for Halloween.

Here goes nothing….

1. If you could live anywhere, where would you live and why?

We’ve made a pretty HUGE move recently (duh!) so I’m pretty much happy living in good ol’ Texas. Even though a little more than a year ago we had NO idea that we would end up settling in Austin, we are pretty stoked with our new digs. I love the fact that I can drive 8 minutes (to be exact) and be downtown. I love the fact that a hike or bike ride is less than a 5 minute drive away. I love the fact that Austin has a boho/yogi vibe that contiguous. And I love the fact that this place loves Mexican food as much as I do! The only thing that could make it that much more better is our family and friends. A beach or two couldn’t hurt either, but the close proximity to lakes rolling hills doesn’t hurt.

2. If you couldn’t have the job you have now, what would you want to do for work?

If I wasn’t a teacher I would want to do something else in the education field. Maybe something to do with curriculum development or educational coach? I need something that always keeps me on the move and challenged. I truly LOVE what I do and can’t imagine myself inside a cube or traveling out of town all of the time for work (I heart my boys at home and want to have family).

3. What is the one blog you look forward to reading each day and why?

ohhh this one is hard…but if I have to choose I’d definitely pick Kendi Everyday.

Her effortless and sometimes playful style insire me to create outfits with items that I already have in my closet. For a brief time period I even toyed with the idea of starting my own style blog because of this awesome girl. I decided against this because I realized the amount of time it would take to keep up a style blog. At this point in time, I’d rather take more time to explore Austin, hang with Jake/friends, and date my yoga mat.

4. What would you call your personal style?

A little bit of this and a little bit of that? I think some friends would say Grandma chic. haha. But, I usually go for a California boho classic look. My style is definitely evolving though. Back in middle school I was notorious for my plaid shirts (ode to grunge) and white t-shirts. I’m usually always wearing a scarf (too many to count), large necklace (never enough), or my ballet flats (again, never enough) though.

5. Who had the biggest influence on you growing up and why?

Hmm. I would probably have to say my younger brother Jeremy. We had the usual sibling fights, but I always looked up to him and his ability to just let things be. I’m emotional and can be a worrier in the worst of times. Jeremy was always able to let things slide off his back and be in the moment. Although he did get himself in trouble (ahem- falling asleep in the closet before school started OR telling my mom that he has a concert for band an HOUR before it began) from time to time due to these habits, I see that now he really just “was” and rolled with the punches. As an adult I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to internalize these things and have been working on staying in the now. Thanks Permster… Love you!

Well, there you have it folks. I was tagged, I answered, I conquered. Good night!

Happy Belated Birthday (to me)

It’s been awhile. I could say that we’ve been busy taking in all that is Austin, but let’s be real. I’ve been working 6 days a week relearning everything I thought I knew about teaching. Now, don’t get me wrong. I seriously love my job, but these long weeks are starting to over welcome their ware.

Back to the reason for today’s post- my birthday! Not knowing what to expect since it was my first birthday not living in Cali, I knew I wanted to hang out with some friends a find a new place to chill on West 6th. And as expected (or unexpected?) no plans usually means fun adventures. That’s exactly what took place.

Below is a shortened recap of the night’s events.

And let’s not forget to mention the amazing birthday care packages that were sent by my favorite people back in Cali or my amazing husband that bought me my newest party shoes.

Ya’ll (you heard that word right)  made my birthday very, very, VERY special.
