Dad

A much needed mama-getaway was needed (can I get an amen!?) with a few old friends from high school leaving dad in charge for the weekend. And while truly enjoying turning off and just taking the weekend to reconnect and recharge I couldn’t help notice a few things when dad is in charge.

🔺When day’s in charge he takes little man for a much needed trim (and grape sucker for a job well done) and even sends mama bear pictures because he knows how sentimental I am of even these simple events.

🔺When dad’s in change there’s probably a lot less sticking to schedules and a lot more playing until exhaustion strikes.

🔺And with said flexible schedules comes dirt/stains/younameit. Hence the photo evidence above I received one evening after my little monster was (clean?) sound asleep.

🔺When dad’s in charge there are ALWAYS extra adventures. Trailer bike ride and trip to the Emma Long Park were the adventures of the day (did I mention there was not a schedule that day?! How did do so much?). Little man LOVED the pool and jumped into Dad’s arms. What I wouldn’t do to see all of that in action.

The house didn’t burn down and there areextra piles of laundry, but I couldn’t be more proud of my husband for all his effort in making it a fun weekend and only calling a few times to say goodnight or to tell me how much fun they were having.

Can’t wait until my flight lands on that Texas soil to be the recipient of lots of hugs and two smiling boys waiting for their mama.

Week 23

20130518-193756.jpg

Brought my 23 week old Bubba to Seattle this weekend with friends. We (and when I say “we” I’m talking about the baby boy and I 😉) enjoyed loads of decaf lattes and coffee, a Top Pop sandcastle donut, clam chowder and some rhubarb crumb dessert that was beyond delish. Have to say that the miles and miles of walking were well worth the indulges. Baby must be in a food coma or lulled by all the walking too because he’s been awfully quiet the past day and a half.

Ps. You can still see my toes, always a good sign 😉

5 Years!

20130511-133628.jpg

We finally splurged this year and took a night out for ourselves to spend downtown and stay overnight in a hotel room on Town Lake.

For some reason this year felt like a true milestone and we wanted to do something big to celebrate our marriage. No gifts this year except a night alone! Really…what else could a newish parents ask for? We had a great dinner and met up with friends for drinks and laughs much too late into the night for a teacher.

happy anniversary babe!

Belly Shots

So lets say that I’m 100% terrible at taking belly pictures. I even have an alarm set to go off each Saturday when you’d think I’d have time to snap a quick picture. I started with an 8 week and a 10 week photo, and well…yup.

So I figured I’d post the 10 week photo and what this baby bump is looking like this week and see if I can keep up the momentum.

10 weeks

20 weeks

*Feeling good still
*walking/yoga-ing/bike riding lots this time around again
*moved preggo clothes into current wardrobe rotation, however since I was pregnant for the fall/winter I might have to invest in a few pieces that I can wear like dresses or maxis to carry me through

I see my midwife next week to find out how much I’ve gained and to listen to te baby again. Last time I was up about 5 pounds, I’ve surely gained weight since then because I can’t quite fit into all my tops 😉

I wish I’d thought of a feet/ belly shot from the start. Easy peasy annnnddd as long as I got something cute on from the waist down I’m golden.

I mean….

. It doesn’t get much better than a little man with his dada. That’s all for this Monday morning….

Numbers

Saw another blogger do a cute numbers post so I thought I would follow suit…

5 the number of years the hub and I will be celebrating come Friday. We are spending part of Saturday and Sunday downtown. Some good friends will be in town so we will get to hang out with them for a bit before heading out on our own. Im really looking forward to a “real” celebration this since we’ve kept it low key the past few years. Lots to celebrate!!!

6the number of boy names we are tossing around this time. We were so sure it was a girl *cough cough..oops!* that we never even considered any boy names before. Our final name may or may not be on this list….we made a pinky promise to keep the name a surprise until he end!

20130428-073646.jpg

20/21the number of weeks this baby boy is this week. Why 20/21 you ask? Well, my due date keeps changing since we weren’t 100% sure when we conceived and the ultra sound has the baby measuring ahead a week than our original though. Either way, expect another little dude in our house anywhere between 9/12-9/19. 😘

1the number of nesting projects I currently have underway. I finished shifting around things In my closet for this baby bump until I grow a bit more. Currently I’m working on the boys (!!!) room. I’ve moved Londyn’s crib to make room for a toddler bed down the line and now that we know we are having a boy I’m able to go through all of his old clothes and organize them in the baby’s closet. Little does Jake know that a trip to Lowe’s today might just be in order so I can finish hanging clothes and storing things that are too big for now. I promised myself not to start too many at once this time, although my head is spinning with things I feel the need to clean/toss/organize. I’m just waiting for my class assignment for next year before I start going after my classroom!

4 how many airplane rides we will be taking this summer. We have a trip to California planned for several weeks in July followed by our first family vacation together to Hawaii. Well be leaving to Hawaii at the end of July and then hopping on another flight back home before I have to head back to work and get things settled for a long term substitute. I’ve flown a lot with L since he’s been born but now that he’s getting older I’ll be playing with some new rules. Gratefully dada will be there more than half of these flights and can help a preggo out.

Baby Gender Reveal

Much to our surprise we found out that were having another BOY!!!

20130417-170600.jpg

We were completely convinced that it was a girl until we walked into the Dr.’s office and both changed our guesses at the last minute.

And although we will have to throw out our girl name yet again (and most likely for good), I am extremely grateful for this new little man and getting to be the “boy mom” I’ve always thought I’d be. Lots of dirt, sports and camping will ensue and mama will be the queen of the house still.

**Our due date was changed too. Instead our midwife is guessing September 19th. But after our sonogram baby is measuring 18 weeks instead of 17. It’s all a guessing game anyways!

Firsts: Camping Trip

To say that I was looking forward to taking Londyn camping for the first time would be a complete lie. I wasn’t expecting a camping excursion to take place this soon, but my ever-loving camping husband wouldn’t have it another way. He planned a family camping trip to McKinney Falls, a family friendly site (similar to Leo Carillo back home…) a few months back. And while I kept pretending like it would never take place, last Friday rolled around and Jake and I were planning our two meals and other necessities.

Overall it was a good trip. Not great, but good. I was afraid that Londyn wouldn’t get to sleep and I’d never have a chance to sit. He eventually slept after a sugar-rush of mini marshmallows (good thing tents zip up making it a portable crib) and I did get some time to read (!!!).

We learned a few things over the last two days…

1. Don’t forget the stroller. Duh!
2. Make sure you have a flat campsite. although ours was pretty flat, there were a few elevated parts that gave someone a few tumbles
3. Family friendly is Key! there were playgrounds, flat/easy hikes and a spring where Jake could take him out in the water.
4. Make a list of things you need, even if you think you already have them in your camping gear

I’m sure Londyn won’t remember this trip but overall it was a good experience for him. I know Jake was over the moon knowing that this was only the first camping trip for our family. He agreed that its a lot more work than he expected but getting to are your child experience the same things you did as a kid makes it all worth it: ….engorging on mini marshmallows
….collecting sticks, shells and rocks
….waking up and having breakfast by the campfire
….allowed to get plain ol’ dirty!

We have another trip planned for a few week….expect this time it’s in our own backyard with our tepee and the comforts of home. Nothing to pack, no dirty dishes or clothes to clean, just a small family spending quality time together in the great outdoors.

The Cat’s Out of the Bag!

20130224-075734.jpg

Yup, we are growing by one more! Although we were a bit thrown for a loop in the beginning we are happy to announce the big news. Baby V part 2 is comin our way September 12th.

We heart *her* (we have a big inkling it’s a girl this time) today and that tricky little swimmer was not wanting to be found. Luckily we were going anywhere before we heard that first heartbeat…ohh I just go gaga thinking about it!

Growth Spurt!

For the record this boy at the following this morning….

2 scrambled eggs
3 strawberries
I piece of toast

…not to mention my cheese and toast bites he snagged from me!
